President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, replacing Professor Is-haq Oloyede whose tenure is set to end on July 31, 2026.

The appointment has generated massive reactions across Nigeria’s education sector, especially among students preparing for future UTME examinations. Many observers have described the move as a major generational shift within the country’s educational administration system.

Professor Aina, a Computer Engineering professor at Obafemi Awolowo University, is regarded as one of Nigeria’s youngest professors in the field of computer engineering. Reports indicate that he will become the youngest registrar in JAMB’s history.

According to the presidency, Aina possesses extensive experience in examination systems, digital infrastructure, and institutional reforms. He studied Computer Systems Engineering at the University of Kent and later obtained postgraduate degrees from Loughborough University in the United Kingdom.

Interestingly, reports also revealed that Professor Aina once served at JAMB during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) days, making his appointment a remarkable full-circle moment in his career journey.

Many Nigerians have praised outgoing registrar Is-haq Oloyede for introducing reforms that improved transparency and strengthened the credibility of the examination body over the years.

Reacting online, some students expressed hope that the new leadership would further improve the UTME process, reduce technical glitches, and make admissions more transparent.

One social media user wrote:

“We hope the new registrar will continue the reforms and improve the CBT system.”

Another commented:

“A younger tech expert leading JAMB could bring fresh innovation to Nigeria’s education sector.”

The appointment is expected to usher in a new phase for JAMB as millions of candidates continue to rely on the board for admission into tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
